Choice, Self-empowerment and Personal Responsibility
It’s my belief that these qualities are what you need in order to obtain your best health, and I strongly encourage you to realise that you are the architect of your health, your body and your life.
People often believe that they have little choice concerning their healthcare and that many barriers are put in their way. Modern medicine treats disease, but does little to prevent it. It is based around pharmaceuticals and high-tech procedures with often little regard for the individual. Certainly modern medical procedures have their place and are right for some people. However I believe that there is a lack of knowledge and understanding about the role that good diet, nutritional therapy and other complementary therapies can play in healthcare. The reality is that you do have choices, but you might not know about what options are available or how to access them. That is why I feel compelled to be a champion for such treatments.
Everyone should be able to understand their options, be it conventional or alternative medicine, and not be prevented from exercising their choice due to cost, prejudice, lack of knowledge, or the interests of big business. Many people are left feeling ‘let down’ by the medical system, or feel unable to follow a path they know instinctively is right for them due to lack of support. That is why I feel passionate about empowering people to take charge of their own health and by showing them safe and easy ways to restore their health and well-being.
My first career was very different to what I do now. For many years I played the corporate career game as an IT expert for a large, well known UK business. Initially it was fun but as time went on I became more frustrated and disillusioned. Balancing the demands of home, family and a career were difficult. I was fed up of continually losing out to male colleagues for promotions, and being expected to work longer hours just because that was the culture. Not to mention the constant stress and minor health niggles such as constant headaches and poor sleep. I knew things had to change but I didn’t know what or how.
But then some significant events occurred which forced me to examine my world and led me into changing the course of my life.
Some 20 years ago I ‘stumbled’ across some meditation tapes, and that was the beginning of my spiritual journey. This process of ‘Awakening the Light Body’ caused me to question everything about my life, encouraged me to think more deeply about what I was here to do, and ultimately forced me to turn my life upside down. Since that time my spiritual development has played a significant part in my life and my work.
So I began my training as a Natural Health Therapist. I started by becoming an Aromatherapist – simply because I saw a course advertised and knew I had to do it. One thing led to another and I very soon became qualified in a number of therapies. [I am qualified in Nutritional Therapy, Iridology, Reflexology, Aromatherapy, and Massage Therapy. A full list of my qualifications and experiences can be found here.] I am also a Reiki master and Light Body teacher.
As I grew more experienced I became aware of the power of such therapeutic work and realised that this was the work I should be doing. However I was too scared to let go of my employment. I kept telling myself that when I had enough clients and the business was bringing in enough money then I could leave my executive career. I was becoming increasingly frustrated trying to juggle home, work and my new passion for natural health. I wanted to get out there and start really helping people.
The next event which rocked my world was that my father, who up until this point had been fit and well, developed cancer. He died within a few months, not long after his 65th birthday. This was like a bolt out of the blue and left me reeling. Then came the third strike – within 11 months my Mother was also dead, from a heart attack, she was 66. My parents’ early demise was something of a wake-up call, and it dawned on me that working hard and waiting for your retirement to enjoy life was a bit pointless. Life is for enjoying now, because you never know what is round the corner. In hindsight, I understood what a great gift my parents had left me. They gave me the impetus and means to get on and start doing what I should be doing with my life.
So I left the corporate world behind and moved to the world of healing and support instead. Since then I’ve been helping women, (and a few men) to regain their health and realise their potential by sharing my knowledge and skills as a Natural Health Therapist. For the past 17 years I have had the privilege to help many people regain their health and well-being using the power of natural therapies and good diet, and by empowering them to take charge of their own health so it is sustainable. I would be thrilled to help you too.
